Case Stories Show That Impact Assessments Make a Difference for Kids

Child & youth impact assessments (CYIAs) are beginning to demonstrate value in elevating the needs of young people in communities across the country. A child & youth impact assessment—much like a health, environmental, and racial equity impact assessment—provides a systematic way for policymakers and community leaders to understand policy and other proposals’ effects on young people.

In Fresno, California, for example, a group of high school students used an impact assessment to advance STEM diversity in their school. And in a community in Colorado, an impact assessment  was instrumental in helping to pass a ballot measure to fund one of the most under-resourced schools in the state. These and other case stories show impact assessments’ value and highlight the role they have had in influencing policy decisions that directly affect young people.
